Aspergillus ustus

A - B - C - D - E - Next

Aspergillus ustus is considered as the most ubiquitous soil species, commonly found in tropical and subtropical areas. The presence of this mold is an indication of soil deficiency, since it is highly destructive and thrives well in areas where other species cannot grow. It is the main contaminant of cultivated soils, but is also found to occur in other habitats such as forests, deserts, sea, salty ground and alkaline environments as well as in unusual environments such as the defrosted soil in Alaska.

Aspergillus ustus
Aspergillus ustus has been isolated from different substrates like cardboard, rubber, plants, paper, synthetic materials, food products and feathers of living birds. Although not pathogenic, this species can cause fungal endocarditis, otitis media, and cutaneous skin infections.
