Aspergillus penicilloides

A - B - C - D - E - Next

Although not commonly found indoors, Aspergillus penicilloides is a mold of the aspergillus genus that is known to have a xerophylic nature. That is, it can grow and thrive in environments with low water activity, but does not do well in a laboratory setting. As such, it is often overlooked during laboratory investigations.

Aspergillus penicilloides

Aspergillus penicilloides can grow in colonies and can be found in a variety of dried foods, spices, house dusts and even in cereals. It is considered allergenic and is also regarded as an opportunistic pathogen, which means there is a possibility that it can cause diseases in humans. Although it is regarded as such, however, there are no reported effects upon human health associated with this mold.
